Downing Grey Progressive Rock Tribute Band performs “The Return of the Giant Hogweed” by Genesis

While most tribute bands pay homage to one specific band, supergroup Downing Grey pays tribute to the entire genre of progressive rock – covering nine different bands. This Genesis song “The Return of the Giant Hogweed” is from the 1971 album Nursery Cryme.

Genesis are an English rock band that formed in 1967. The band consist of their three longest-tenured members: founding members Tony Banks (keyboards) and Mike Rutherford (bass, guitar); and Phil Collins (vocals, drums), who joined in 1970. Former members Peter Gabriel (vocals, flute), Steve Hackett (guitar) and Anthony Phillips (guitar) also played major roles in the band in its early years. Genesis are among the highest-selling recording artists of all time, with approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide.

Nursery Cryme is the third studio album by Genesis and was recorded and released in 1971. It is the band’s first album with drummer Phil Collins and guitarist Steve Hackett, who replaced John Mayhew and Anthony Phillips, respectively, in 1970 and 1971. The five-member line-up of Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Collins and Hackett would remain consistent until the band’s 1976 album A Trick of the Tail, when Phil Collins replaced Peter Gabriel as lead vocalist following Gabriel’s departure from the band. Nursery Cryme is also the band’s shortest studio album.
