While most tribute bands pay homage to one specific band, supergroup Downing Grey pays tribute to the entire genre of progressive rock – covering nine different bands.
This video features Andrew Colyer on keyboards, playing the parts of the great Keith Emerson.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer, also known as ELP, are a sporadically active English progressive rock supergroup. They found success in the 1970s and have sold over forty million albums and headlined large stadium concerts. The band consists of Keith Emerson (keyboards), Greg Lake (bass guitar, vocals, guitar) and Carl Palmer (drums, percussion). They are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock bands.
Emerson Lake & Palmer released the album Brain Salad Surgery in 1973. “Karn Evil 9” is a futuristic fusion of rock and classical themes. It is regarded by some to be ELP’s best work together with the song Tarkus. “Karn Evil 9” was written by Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, and former King Crimson lyricist Peter Sinfield. The phrase “Karn Evil” is a slight alteration of the word “carnival”.
