This Emerson Lake & Palmer (ELP) piece “Tarkus (Part 1: Eruption)” is the opening track from ELP’s 1971 album Tarkus.  This video was shot live on location at Keegan Ales, Kingston, New York, on December 7th, 2013.

Emerson Lake & Palmer released the album Brain Salad Surgery in 1973.  “Karn Evil 9” is a futuristic fusion of rock and classical themes. It is regarded by some to be ELP’s best work together with the song Tarkus. “Karn Evil 9” was written by Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, and former King Crimson lyricist Peter Sinfield. The phrase “Karn Evil” is a slight alteration of the word “carnival”.
